Love your Skin

As the snow begins to fall and the air around us turns crisp, we tend to adjust our daily routines in preparation for the months to come. With some of us the transition is simple, where as for my self a bunch of little things start to change. Example my skin…..oh how it hates these cold dry days. Now correct me if I’m wrong, you start to notice dry flaky areas, your eyes seem to show your true age, as all the fine lines seem to jump out in the mirror. Let’s face it, the cold wind on your face, the swap out of fresh fruit for breakfast with a morning Starbucks leaves us all a bit more dehydrated than usual, lol. So I begin to ask myself, how is it I can look and feel my best during this unfavorable season? Well ladies I found my cure, and it was much simpler than pulling out the blender and whipping up some old wife’s tale concoction of avocado, banana, and grapeseed oil blended and smeared on my face; all the while I drop some on the floor, get some on the wall and somehow cake my hair in it while I’m at it. No, it’s much simpler than this, it’s as easy as 3 magical products made by Dermalogica. Now I can’t begin to express how much they have individually saved my life, or my skin, but I will say this the consistency, ingredients, and results are enough to keep me coming back. So ladies ( and gents) to bring your skin back to life you must try the brand new Multivitamin Power Serum, this product has a revolutionary ingredient blend that pushes the vitamins deeper, helps collagen production around the eye area and restores the skins natural glow.

I follow this product with moisturizer called Barrier Repair that essentially creates a “woven basket” effect over your face. This promotes breathability, allowing all nutrients in while blocking all environmental aggressors, again gotta love a product that multitasks. And now last but not least we are ready to dawn our beauty masks, and the best place to start is with Dermalogica’s Skin Perfect Primer. This amazing product helps to eliminate fine lines and pours, protects your skin, as it is fortified with SPF 30, and since the main ingredient is crushed pearl, your left with a healthy glow.

Now I’m not one to brag but I have recently bumped into some old colleagues I haven’t seen in a few years and each reaction was the same, I apparently look 5 years younger…. And I must admit, I see the results myself. If you’re sitting around wondering how to turn back the signs of aging or at least combat these rough winter months….I recommend starting with at least 1 of these 3 spectacular must own products! So here is to looking stunning during even the dreariest of days :)

Quick Tease

Ladies we all know what season is approaching fast….winter! This means the unflattering bulky jackets, heavy boots and the TOQUE! So how do we combat our next 4 months of hat head, I’m glad you asked. Fairly new to the market is Redken’s dry shampoo, called Powder refresh. Not only has this product personally changed my morning routine, and let’s face it my life, it was also voted one of the top 5 dry shampoos out on the market under $20. You can’t go wrong. Just work this product through 1 inch sections all throughout your crown just at the new growth and your set to go. It helps to absorb any excess oil from the scalp, add a slight volume back into those limp locks. This is also great for after yoga, or the gym so I suggest picking up 2, one for home and one for on the go!! So ladies no more excuses for ponytails all winter or hat head at the office. Enjoy!

Short Hair Trend

So this season with hair I believe we will be refreshed with a fairly big change in trends. The once long flowing locks of women are being showcased in mid to shoulder length styles. Now this personally speaks to me, since I have been rocking short hair for about 15 years. I believe our hair at times can become a security blanket a statement piece or even a catalyst that helped us through some rough patches. With this hot new trend, I believe it will once again show women that we no longer need to be blanketed by our hair. Let’s show case off our beautiful cheek bones, accentuate our eyes with the right fringe. Draw attention to your beautiful lips by having some face framing layers that hit right below the cheeks. Just because your hair is short doesn’t mean we are “cutting” out any of our feminine power. Just look at Anne Hathaway, just recently chopped her locks for the role in Batman, and she still looks fierce.

So ladies if your looking to spice up your style, why not try a one length bob or a short textured crop p. These looks remind us that we as women should never let our hair wear us, instead lets stand tall and proud and show off our beautiful features.

Let the Leaves Fall

Let the leaves fall!! This is absolutely my favorite time of year. Everything from the beautiful colors created by mother nature herself, to the bold ensembles strutting the runways. For those of you out there that are restricted to your 9 to 5 corporate frocks don’t fret, 2012’s fall and winter trends encourage you to play up color in even your makeup regime. From electric blues, to the soft muted shades of coral all you need is to dust your top lid with any pop of color, followed by a healthy coat of mascara and your set. But ladies if shadow isn’t your forte add some flair to your look with blue mascara. This trend is hot on the runways as well. Either way your new color amped routine will keep you smiling through these cold grey months ahead.

Choosing the right styling tools – Hot Roller Placement

Have you ever wondered why is it that when you go home after getting an amazing hair cut or color you can never seem to duplicate the look?

Well it’s because you may not be set up for success with the right tools you need to achieve that end result.

Place hot rollers the right way

If you want to add volume and wave to your hairstyle, lift your section up, place the roller underneath the section and roll down toward your scalp. For waves with minimal volume, leave your sections directed downward; place the roller on top of the section and roller up instead of under, this will give you curls but not lots of lift at your root.

Choosing the right styling tools – Proper Flat-Iron Usage

Have you ever wondered why is it that when you go home after getting an amazing hair cut or color you can never seem to duplicate the look?

Well it’s because you may not be set up for success with the right tools you need to achieve that end result.

Keep your flat-iron moving

Move your flat-iron down each section in smooth passes with medium pressure. Starting and stopping, as a well as pressing too hard, can leave “dents” in your hair. Our stylists at Edges are more than happy to book you a 15 minute styling tip/session to show you the proper ways of styling your hair, ask your stylist next time you’re in.

At Edges Salon and Spa, you can rely on us to not only use the right products, but our stylists are all expertly trained in the techniques needed for every hair type!

Choosing the right styling tools – Tuck the Ends

Have you ever wondered why is it that when you go home after getting an amazing hair cut or color you can never seem to duplicate the look?

Well it’s because you may not be set up for success with the right tools you need to achieve that end result.

Tuck those ends under

Make sure the very tip of your hair is tucked into your curling-iron before you roll it up. Otherwise, you’ll end up with what stylists call a “fishhook” – a small section that’s bent backwards. This can make all the hard work you put into styling your hair not so hot at the end.

At Edges Salon and Spa, you can rely on us to not only use the right products, but our stylists are all expertly trained in the techniques needed for every hair type!

Hair Myths – CONTAGIOUS DANDRUFF

Hair Myths - Contagious Dandruff

…what’s the truth?

MYTH: Dandruff is contagious.

TRUTH: Dandruff is not contagious. The dandruff is caused by scalps that produce an excessive amount of skin cells. If dandruff is an issue, speak to your stylist to find the right products – such as Redken’s Scalp Relief. This product is available at Edges Salon & Spa.
